We’re looking for an experienced Electrical & Instrumentation Engineer with a proven track record of solving complex engineering problems to join our growing team in Nursling, Southampton.
This role centres on the design, development, and lifecycle support of electrical and instrumentation systems used in advanced load-monitoring products. You will act as the technical authority for electrical and control elements across new product development and custom-engineered monitoring systems. The environment demands rigor, strong systems thinking, and the ability to translate engineering principles into reliable products deployed in demanding industrial and marine settings.
– Lead electrical and instrumentation design for load-cell-based systems, including sensor interfaces, signal conditioning, PLC/embedded control, and system integration.
– Produce schematics, wiring diagrams, panel layouts, and documentation using tools such as AutoCAD, EPLAN, or SkyCAD.
– Ensure designs follow engineering standards, EMC considerations, safe wiring practices, and manufacturability constraints.
– Specify materials, components, and instrumentation appropriate for harsh and safety-critical environments.
– Act as the technical authority during design reviews and cross-functional engineering decisions.
– Proficiency in electrical design software (e.g., AutoCAD Electrical, EPLAN, SkyCAD).
– Strong understanding of electrical principles, instrumentation, and sensor-signal processing.
– Working knowledge of mechanical interfaces relevant to load cells and structural integration.
– Awareness of manufacturing processes, assembly constraints, and design-for-manufacture.
– Ability to generate precise engineering documentation and design packs.
– Familiarity with engineering standards relevant to industrial measurement, marine equipment, and control systems.
– Demonstrable experience as an Electrical / Instrumentation Engineer in a relevant sector (measurement systems, industrial automation, lifting equipment, marine systems, or similar).
– Proven track record of solving complex engineering problems under time and operational constraints.
– Practical experience with PLCs, embedded control hardware, and instrumentation networks (e.g., analogue I/O, RS485, Modbus, Profinet).
– Advanced CAD proficiency is advantageous.
– Electrical/instrumentation Engineering Degree or Equivalent Experience (required)
– Company pension
– Free on-site parking
– Company-Performance-Related Annual Bonus
