DLM Wins Spirit of Innovation Award

July 5, 2017

Dynamic Load Monitoring Ltd (DLM) was named winner of Spirit of Innovation award in the category, Marine Engineering and Construction at last month’s European Commercial Marine (ECM) awards for Subsea Datalogging Tensile Link. The awards were held at a South Coast waterfront location in Southampton during the Seawork International 20th Anniversary exhibition.

DLM were visited by seven judges throughout the morning of the first day of the show and were asked to explain the product put forward in the showcase award. Judges also visited other entries and then came together to decide on a winner, that was announced on the first evening of the show.

The winning product, the Subsea Datalogging Tensile Link is a robust link used for measuring tensile loads on subsea mooring lines, underwater deployments and other similar applications. Available in load ranges from 5 tonne up to 200 tonne the link measures and records the applied load using an internal data logger which was developed by DLM electronic engineers.

Chris Scrutton, Dynamic Load Monitoring Technical Manager, commented, ‘The tensile link was custom built after a client approached our design team wanting a robust product that would measure the tension on subsea mooring lines and have the capability to reach water depths of 3000m. Due to their project it was important that the link records the data for up to one year and enables load readings to be recorded at a maximum rate of 1Hz. The information is stored as CSV file format which is easily accessible using already existing PC software like Microsoft Excel.’

Martin Halford, DLM Managing Director, adds, ‘We are delighted to have won this award. Our design team are always on hand to work with customers to find innovative solutions and we are constantly developing new products to add to our expanding product range. When a customer contacted us wanting to adapt one of our existing products to suit their application, we were able to draw upon our many years of experience to develop a robust product, using the latest technology applied to their exact requirements. This product has now become increasing popular amongst Subsea and Offshore companies and we have now deployed several here in our home town of Southampton and around the world, including Japan and India.
