The Challenge:
Selecting the most effective combination of grapnels for specific seabed conditions has long been a challenging and time-consuming process for companies involved in PLGR, cable laying, and cable recovery operations. Each grapnel is designed for a particular purpose, and when used in conjunction with other grapnels in a train arrangement, can play a defined role that complements the other grapnels, enabling end users to carry out their operations effectively.
However, tight project timelines can make sourcing the right combination of grapnels difficult. This is driven by two key factors: the need to carry out extensive research and, often, the requirement to contact multiple suppliers to acquire a complete train. These factors not only increase the risk of extended lead times, potentially causing costly delays that could significantly increase project expenses, but also introduce logistical challenges.
Solution:
As experienced suppliers to the cable-laying industry, we recognise the importance of eliminating these inefficiencies while offering immediate, expert support to ensure customers can source the ideal solution promptly.
To address this issue, our in-house engineering team, DLM Design, has drawn on their extensive knowledge and expertise to design complete grapnel train arrangement drawings tailored to the specific requirements of clay and rocky seabed environments.
To help customers avoid logistical challenges, we stock full grapnel trains in-house at DLM HQ, offering an all-in-one solution for the required grapnels and associated fittings. This eliminates the need to coordinate with multiple suppliers or conduct extensive research, saving valuable project time and accelerating the entire process for our customers.
Clay Seabed Arrangements
Our clay seabed grapnel trains are expertly designed with a Sandpoint Grapnel at the back to provide additional weight and penetration. These grapnel trains are ideal for seabeds that are easily disturbed and where there will be minimal resistance.
Rocky Seabed Arrangements
For tougher conditions, our rocky seabed grapnel trains are designed with a Spearpoint Grapnel at the back, providing increased penetration and resistance. These grapnel trains are ideal for rugged seabeds where greater resistance is expected.
